Some times you have to just bow down and give credit where it’s due, and today is one of those days. I’ve just seen some fantastic videos from the Boulder-based startup Orbotix, – and some serious PR props are due.
First, a little background. The folks at Orbotics have developed Sphero – a wicked cool little robotic ball. You can control its movements using a smartphone. As President Obama learned on his trip to Colorado, driving the little Sphero ball around is fun.
President Obama? How did they do that!? Well, they saw an opportunity and jumped on it, shrugging off warnings from their CEO about the advisability of rolling a robotic ball up to the President. Brad Feld, a VC who sits on the Orbotix board, tells the whole story about getting President Obama to play with your product.
Obviously, this little episode got some play in the media, and online.

Clearly, this team knows what they’re doing, and the stunt with the President wasn’t their first – they lead with a relevant – and adorable – cat video.
Yes. Cat video. And it’s awesome.
Kudos to the Orbotix team. You’re clearly on the ball!
